Taking a vitamin D supplement is important all year round, even throughout the summer.
Sunlight in the UK is only strong enough to stimulate the production of sufficient vitamin D for our bodies for three to four months of the year.
During this time, you would need to be fully exposed to the sun without sun cream, for 20 to 30 minutes each day, to get all the vitamin D you need through sunlight.
And because of the risks to our skin from exposure to the sunlight without sun cream on, it is unlikely that you will be able to get all the vitamin D you need from the sun alone.
You should therefore continue to keep your levels topped up with a vitamin D supplement, even during the summer.
If you do not get to spend much time outside, it is especially important to do this.
If you have not applied sun cream as often as you should, then you could end up with sore, red skin.
Aloe vera can work well to soothe the skin. Aloe vera helps to support the skin after sun exposure, as well as keeping the skin hydrated, which ensures that the skin is less likely to dry out and peel.
Wash the skin with cool water and then apply an aloe vera gel or an after sun cream, such as Badger After Sun Balm to the affected areas.
Make sure you stay out of the sun and keep applying sun cream until the redness has completely gone.
A soothing gel such as aloe vera is the perfect way to get your skin feeling tip top again, especially if you have spent too much time in the sun.
Simply apply a thin layer of a gel such as Dr Organic Aloe Vera Gel 200ml to the affected skin and gently rub it in until it is fully absorbed. Repeat this as often as needed, to leave you with lovely, soothed skin.
If you feel like you need some extra cooling, then just pop your soothing gel in the fridge to keep it cool until you are ready to use it.
When children are running around on holiday they are bound to end up with a couple of marks and you might get some from running around after them!
Arnica cream is a traditional skincare product which is used to soothe and support affected areas on the skin.
Simply apply Holland & Barrett Arnica Cream 30g liberally as required. Be gentle as you apply so as not to hurt the affected area further.
