Essential oils for your summer beauty routine

Essential oils and their sweet aromas are the perfect companion during summer as the sun peeks its head from behind the clouds. So, before you get your summer wardrobe ready, make sure you’re ready for the warmer months with these natural sensations that will do wonders for your hair and skin.

    Oils to fight against acne

Lavender and tea tree to help prevent the growth of bacteria

During the summer months, when we naturally sweat more, oil can build up under our skin and cause spots. Lavender oil has both antibacterial and antiseptic properties, meaning it can help prevent the bacteria that causes acne in the first place and treat spots that have already formed[1].

When mixed with water, lavender oil is also the perfect toner for those with particularly oily skin.

Tea tree oil also has powerful antiseptic properties and can be used to treat spot outbreaks, so try adding a few drops to water and apply to the face with a cotton pad or soft cloth.

Oils for a healthy scalp and hair

Chamomile helps to soothe your scalp

Chamomile is an effective natural solution for hair lice and dandruff. It also soothes and hydrates an irritated scalp, easing both irritation and itching, so try adding a few drops into your regular shampoo or conditioner, then apply and rinse as normal.

Sage provides a sleek shine and helps to fight off dandruff

Sage has been used in different societies for hundreds of years. For a long time, people actually thought that it was a magic herb. It may not be quite as miraculous as once thought, but there are still some great benefits from using it in your beauty routine.

It’s a particularly useful option for the hair because it gives it a sleek shine and helps fight off any dandruff. Being an astringent, it’s also greatly beneficial for hair growth.

Applying a little to your scalp will increase the blood flow to the hair follicles and leave you with fuller, stronger hair.

The options for hair don’t stop there though…

If sage is problematic for your skin, there’s a whole bunch of other oils to try, including:

    • Argon oil
    • Avocado oil
    • Castor oil

    Oils for rejuvenating your skin

Hip oil and frankincense for perfect-looking skin

Don’t settle for less than sparkling. Nobody wants rough-looking sullen skin, so add an essential oil to your exfoliating regime to make sure you shine.

Rose hip oil and frankincense are great in this regard. Packed with vitamin C and useful in reducing stretch marks, you can’t really go wrong with either. Applying these oils topically may help smooth the appearance of skin, while they are known to be natural toners too.

Almond oil for dead skin cell removal

For that little bit of extra rejuvenation, add almond oil to the mix too. Use it when exfoliating and see the difference. It removes dead skin cells from the surface, leaving you with a new glow[2].
