Dragon’s blood skincare: the A-list beauty buy

Fancy plumper, firmer, more youthful skin? We thought so!

Skincare products containing dragon’s blood could hold the key to a more beautiful you. Dragon’s blood might sound like something from fairytales involving knights and damsels in distress, but we promise no mythical creatures were harmed in the making of this produt!

    What is dragon’s blood?

Dragon’s blood is the name for a blood-red resin taken sustainably from the croton lechleri tree, found in the Amazon rainforest. When the trunk is cut, red sap oozes out that looks like blood, hence its rather gruesome name.

This natural ingredient has been used by indigenous tribes in South America for hundreds of years. The Romans and Greeks used it for medicinal purposes, Chinese warriors applied it to battle wounds and it was seen as precious as frankincense and myrrh in ancient times. Its medicinal qualities are present because, for a plant, resins are a way of protecting themselves against pathogens and pests.

    What are the benefits?

The naturally occuring compounds in dragon’s blood are thought to help soothe skin and reduce inflammation. They can also remove redness and, when applied to skin, dragon’s blood creates a ‘second skin’ barrier, which can help firm up your complexion.

It’s popular with celebrities, with Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue and Kylie Jenner who have all integrated this wonder ingredient into their skincare routine – well, if it’s good enough for the A-list…

    The Ekia range

Ekia have created an organic skincare range utilising dragon’s blood sap to help combat the signs of ageing. The products are high in antioxidants and are anti-pollution, protecting your skin from harmful environmental stressors. The Ekia Organic Crème Extrême boosts skin cells, responsible for the production of collagen and elastin by up to 40%. It leaves skin feeling hydrated and firmer, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
