When it comes to getting ready for a day in the sun, you have two choices. To wear makeup, or not wear makeup?

If the idea of going out with a bare face fills you with dread, you’ll be pleased to know that if you follow our advice, you can still wear makeup when the suns out, without it making your face look super shiny bu simply updating your summer beauty regime.

Keep things simple

On sunny days you should still moisturise in the morning like normal, but make sure you use a water-resistant foundation and a primer to stop your makeup from melting and running because of the heat. If you’re going to be hitting a beach you won’t need to apply any powder or bronzer (which could become very sandy). Instead, just wear a small amount of concealer.

Chose your products wisely

When it comes to applying makeup when it’s hot, it’s important to use products sparingly and make sure they’re oil-free. You’ll sweat, it’s unavoidable, and your face will be shiner than usual but you’ve just got to not let it bother you.

The importance of sun cream

The one product that you simply have to wear when you’re going to be spending time in the sun is sun cream. Your skin needs protecting from the sun’s harmful UV rays or you could be risking your long term health. You can’t rely on just using makeup with SPF to protect your skin. For the best results, you need to apply your sun cream after you’ve moisturised but before you add any foundation. You’ll have to remember to keep reapplying sun cream throughout the day, normally every two hours, to make sure you’re protected and you don’t get sunburn.

Waterproofing

Don’t forget, if you’re going swimming, then you need to make sure your mascara is waterproof, and that your sun cream is too. We don't want panda eyes!
