Winter skincare tips to stay hydrated

We asked our skincare expert, Faeza Khan, how she boosts her winter skincare. Here she shares her must-haves and top tips to give your skin some TLC this season.

    Ace your winter skincare routine

It’s a must to ensure healthy hydrated skin in winter, so I make sure I cleanse, tone and moisturise all winter (and year) long!

I use the Dr Organic Manuka Honey Face Wash; it cleanses the skin but also moisturises it too, so there’s no need to worry about dryness on the face.

Toning is crucial to any skin routine as it helps to nourish, soothe and hydrate the skin. I love using Andalou Clementine + C Illuminating Toner – the benefits are all in the name! Full of superfruit antioxidants and everyone’s favourite Vitamin C. It helps to improve uneven skin tone and leaves the skin hydrated and radiant.

Finally, I use the Sukin Super Greens Moisturiser, it’s full of ingredients to help restore the skin and leave it gleaming.

These products keep my skin hydrated and feeling youthful and as a bonus it gives me that J.Lo glow in winter!

Around once a week, I use an ancient remedy that has been passed down by generations. Asian brides would carry this out before their wedding day to give them natural and radiant skin.

Mix ¼ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp honey and almond milk into a paste. Massage it onto your face and leave on for up to 20 minutes. Wash it off with warm water and splash with cold water to close the pores. It will leave your skin looking fabulously glowing. I’d always advise doing a patch test first, just to make sure it’s suitable for your skin.

At night, I use the Beauty Kitchen Abyssinian Facial Concentrate. It’s perfect for any skin type, be it sensitive or dry, and gives your skin an extra boost.

    Winter beauty must-haves

Face masks – they are so hydrating, conditioning and nourishing!

A favourite of mine has to be the Sukin Hydrating Facial Masque – it’s perfect to have in your cupboard for that pick me up.

The Earth’s Kiss Miracle Clay Facial Hydrate Bamboo Sheet Mask is so easy to use. Simply leave it on for 15 – 20 minutes and then rinse off. In the last 5 minutes I usually massage the sheet mask to ensure my skin is absorbing all the ingredients – you can’t go wrong.

Tips for protecting skin from cold weather

I have combination skin and during the bitter winter my skin tends to dry up. There are five things I dry to do to help stop my skin drying up:

    1. Have a lukewarm bath

As tempting as it sounds to enjoy a steaming hot bath, DON’T DO IT! It’s too harsh for winter skincare and will dry it out.

    1. Use a steam room

I go to a steam room as it helps to open the pores and expel any toxins in my body as well as rejuvenating the skin by boosting the body’s circulation.

    1. Exfoliate

Exfoliation is vital as it gets rid of any dry or dead skin cells on the surface leaving the skin feeling soft.

    1. Rinse with cold water

Always finish off your makeup removal or cleansing routine by washing your face with cold water to close the pores.

    1. Recovery serum

I use the Sukin Super Greens Recovery Serum, because it help protect my skin, especially when the weather is cold.

Avoid cold weather drying out lips

Giving your lips some TLC is a must. My secret is as you brush your teeth, brush your lips while you’re at it. It gets rid of the dry skin and believe me when I say this leaves your lips feeling luscious and plumped. Alternatively, Grounded Body Scrub do a cute edible lip scrub available in yummy flavours. Follow this with an intensive lip serum to lock in that moisture; I like Dr Organics Manuka Honey or Olive Oil lip balm

    The best technique to exfoliate

Remember to wash your face and exfoliate in circular motions, try not to be rough or pull on the skin as the face is very delicate.

Aim to exfoliate 1-2 times a week to leave your skin looking fresh. Rinse your face with cold water and make sure to use a facial serum that can absorb into the skin.  Currently I love the Andalou Lemon Facial Scrub as it has a citrus scent. It leaves the skin feeling smoother and brighter due to the lemon in it.
