Facials ingredients

Four gorgeous D.I.Y facials you can make at home

When you buy face masks, you never really know what’s in them. There’s something reassuring about making your own face mask from the freshest ingredients- it can feel like you’re putting a little bit of nature onto your face.

Instead of using chemical-filled options, why not use what nature has given us by nourishing your face with super healthy ingredients? Making your own face mask is so straightforward, and it can leave your skin with a wonderful natural glow. Here’s some DIY face masks you can make to use at home:

To moisturise skin - Avocado & honey

Ingredients:  Half an avocado, 2 tablespoons of honey (we like Manuka Honey the best), 2 tablespoons of natural yogurt, a dash of olive oil or coconut oil.

This ultra-hydrating and refreshing face mask is perfect for dry and flaky skin. It’s a top favourite with celebs such as Victoria Beckham, and can leave your skin feeling moisturised and super smooth. All you have to do is mash up the avocado and mix in the remaining ingredients.

For a natural glow – Banana

Ingredients: Mashed banana, ¼ cup of oats, a dash of lemon juice, and a spoonful of honey.

Bananas can help to hydrate and nourish your skin, as well as enhance your natural glow. They are packed with potassium, which is beneficial for your lymphatic system (a system that helps your skin clean itself and provide nutrients). They also contain good stuff like vitamin C, manganese and copper, some of which can help your skin.

To soothe skin – Oatmeal

Ingredients: Half a cup of oats, half a cup of water, 1 tablespoon of honey, 3 teaspoons of natural yoghurt.

Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory properties and is usually suitable for sensitive skin. It’s also moisturising and can be used to help calm acne and eczema. That’s an impressive amount of goodness for such a simple, cheap ingredient. Blend all the ingredients, and if the mixture is too runny, add more oats to thicken it.

To detoxify and reduce aging - Coffee cocoa

Ingredients: 3 teaspoons of freshly ground coffee, 3 teaspoons of cocoa powder (sugar free), a spoonful of honey, 3 teaspoons of natural yoghurt.

If your face is feeling a little puffy then this is the mask for you, as the coffee can minimise swelling and the good old cocoa powder has anti-ageing antioxidants. Plus it smells like you have a mocha on your face.

Why not try a face scrub to help reduce redness and exfoliate?
