If there’s one thing women really hate, it’s pesky cellulite. Seeing it appear on our bodies makes us feel a little self-conscious and it always appears in the most unflattering of places, like on your thighs and bum. Some people tend to get more than others, caused by many things from a poor diet to a genetic predisposition.

Is cellulite becoming ever more prominent in your life? You’re not alone. It can be really hard to tackle this lumpy nuisance. And in between trying to do so, you’re no doubt hearing all sorts of misinformation about what it is and why it seems to have set up camp on your thighs. But fear not, as there are some top products and tips out there to help you in your battle.

So, what exactly is it and why has it happened to you?

Cellulite is a condition in which the skin contains underlying fat deposits, making the skin dimpled or puckered in its appearance. Many refer to this as ‘orange peel skin’ or ‘cottage cheese syndrome’. Neither of which are particularly positive in their demeanour.

Cellulite sits most favourably on the buttocks and thighs and tends to prey on women the most, as they are more likely to possess those specific types of fat. Likely causes of cellulite are not hugely understood but the most prevalent theories include:

Diet

As with many skin related issues, it has been shown that diets containing excess amounts of fat, salt and sugar can contribute to cellulite.

Hormones

Many believe that oestrogen, insulin and certain thyroid hormones are part of the cellulite process.

Genetics

There are certain genetic traits that have been theorised as requirements for cellulite production. A slow metabolism and poor circulation could both be determinate factors.

So, what can you do to reduce it?

Cellulite is simply fat deposits below the skin, and although many people hate it, it’s nothing to be ashamed of.  If it’s really bothering you, don’t fret as there are some ways to reduce it. The secret to minimising cellulite is to prevent the build-up of toxins in your body. This can be done in several ways:

Diet

One of the biggest things that can have an impact on cellulite is diet. Avoid the obvious stuff such as fatty processed foods. Instead, eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, fibre, wholegrain and alkaline forming foods.

Salt is another thing to avoid as it causes your fat cells to swell, which can actually emphasise cellulite. Keep hydrated as much as possible, as water helps to flush toxins from your body, helps keep your skin looking fresh and those cells renewed. This in turn will help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Exercise

When you consider cellulite is basically fat then naturally, fat-burning exercises will help. Exercise also gets rid of toxins through your skin, which in turn helps reduce cellulite and defines your muscles to make you appear more toned.

Any exercises that focus on problem areas like your hamstrings and glutes are good for targeting persistent cellulite. Try doing some squats, lunges, Romanian deadlifts and kettle bell swings.

Anti-cellulite products & therapies

There’s a whole army of cellulite fighting products that can assist you in the battle against cellulite. Often if you massage products such as Royal Jelly Cellulite cream into problem areas, it can help improve your skin’s appearance and condition by breaking up fluids beneath the surface. Massage mud and brushing treatments are also thought to be beneficial. Dry brushing improves circulation and can help to get rid of nasty toxins. For amazing results, try this wonder product.
