10 simple, yet fun, activities for kids at home

It’s no secret that little people need a lot of stimulation, but keeping the kids entertained at home can be challenging sometimes. Luckily, there’s endless fun to be had indoors, from building a den to starting a rock band!

Stuck for ideas? Here are 10 activities your kids will love

    1. Start a band with your spare bits and bobs!

Why stop at a wooden spoon and saucepan? It’s so easy to make a guitar by cutting a hole in a cereal box and tying some string or rubber bands around it. Use a wrapping paper tube for the guitar neck and rock out!

    2. Host the indoor Olympics

If your bundles of joy are full of energy, get them exercising and playing sport. You could make a fun assault course with obstacles from around the house or see who can do the most star jumps in a minute.

    3. Stage a singing contest

YouTube is full of free karaoke tracks along with songs from all the latest animated films. Decorate the house and get dressed up in front of the TV. Haven’t got a microphone? A hairbrush never stopped anyone.

    4. Hunt for treasure!

Transform your home into a pirate’s cove and go in search of gold! You could start the day drawing maps with your little ones before hiding their favourite toys around the house. Remember, X marks the spot.

    5. Help them with their learning

There are lots of ways to make homework fun, like using toys to help with counting or getting them to memorise the countries in an atlas. If you’re worried about their concentration levels while they’re off, there are plenty of brain and memory supplements that are suitable for kids.

    6. Learn a magic trick together

If you grew up watching Stephen Mulhern or Paul Daniels, you’ll know how exciting magic can be! Don’t worry if you don’t know any tricks of your own, grab a deck of cards and practice with YouTube.

    7. Start a herb garden

All you need is some seeds, a few plant pots and a bit of compost. Growing oregano or thyme is a great way to introduce children of all ages to nature. You could even keep a video diary.

    8. Make a cardboard robot

It’s amazing what you can do with a few felt-tip pens, some foil and a load of cardboard boxes. Looking for a crafty way to pass the time? Get your kids cutting and pasting and welcome a new member to the family.

    9. Bake cookies

Who doesn’t love baking? The Internet is full of easy peasy recipes to help get kids stuck in. Just make sure you have a few spoons to go around when it comes to licking the cake mix.

    10. Build a den

Building a den is super simple and gives kids a place of their own to stash toys or read books. Just drape a bed sheet or duvet over the kitchen table and add a few cushions and fairy lights for the ultimate home hideaway.
