Seven signs to look out for if you think you might be pregnant

You’re feeling sick, craving strange food and are so tired you can barely keep your eyes open. If you believe you could be pregnant, go through our checklist to help you figure out if you’re showing early signs of pregnancy.

    1. Is your period lighter?

Although missing a period is usually the most obvious sign you could be pregnant, women in the early stages can lose small amounts of blood and have very light periods.

    1. Do you often feel nauseous and end up vomiting?

During pregnancy, some women often feel queasy and may end up vomiting. Known as morning sickness, these symptoms can happen at any time of the day and usually start six weeks after your last period.

    1. Do you need to urinate more often?

If you find yourself desperate for the toilet more often at any time of day, it could be a clue that you’re pregnant.

    1. Do you feel run down and tired?

Throughout the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, many women feel tired and worn out due to hormonal changes.

    1. Are your breasts sore?

Your breasts may be bigger than normal, feel tender, tingle or itch. This can also be a sign that your period is due, so look out for changes in your nipple colour or the veins in your breasts.

    1. Have you noticed more vaginal discharge than usual?

Look out for increased vaginal discharge that isn’t accompanied by irritation or soreness.

    1. Do you have strange cravings and different tastes?

If your favourite chocolate bar doesn’t seem appealing anymore, you could be pregnant. In the early stages, many women lose interest in food they used to love and due to a heightened sense of taste and smell, may even find them disgusting.

If you’re still unsure, take a pregnancy test to find out for certain. Try another test in a week if you’re still having symptoms after a negative result.
