Five important skincare tips for exercising

Workouts can be tough on your skin as well as your body. You can help keep your skin blemish-free, clean, hydrated and radiant by following these simple skincare tips for exercising:

    1. Ditch the makeup

We all want to look attractive when we work out but a face full of makeup can really clog up your pores. It can also be pretty uncomfortable too, not to mention unattractive when it smudges as you run. Resist the temptation to wear heavy makeup whilst working out- your skin will thank you for it.

    1. Moisturise

Sometimes moisturising pre-workout can leave your skin feeling a little sticky and heavy. Wear a lightweight moisturiser or moisturise your skin post-workout. If you are exercising outside, wear a moisturiser with SPF. Dehydrated skin can lead to dead skin cells which clog your pores and cause premature aging.

    1. Workout attire

If possible, try and opt for specialised sports clothing that’s designed to help your skin breathe. Keep your hair up and out of your face whilst exercising. Having your hair down will not only make you sweat more but any products you have in your hair can run into your skin.

    1. Be mindful of bacteria

Gym equipment breeds bacteria which can be transferred onto your skin and cause infections and skin problems. Wear gloves in the gym or bring some anti-bacterial wipes to wipe down equipment before you use it. Try not to touch your face too much whilst working out, and wash your hands when you finish.

    1. Wash your skin post-workout

Jump in the shower after your workout and have a thorough wash, making sure you wash your face. Get rid of all the dirt, germs and sweat that may have built up during your workout.

You might want to bring some products from your skincare routine, so you can cleanse, tone and moisturise post-workout. A refreshing toner can really help to revitalise your skin.
