When considering skincare tips for holidays, the focus often tends to be on beach-side summer destinations. However, you need to adapt your skincare routine depending on the type of holiday you are going on. Winter holidays can test your skin just as much as a week in the scorching hot sun.
Here’s some skincare tips for a range of different trips, so that you skin stays at its best during your holiday and after you get back.
Cold weather breaks
Cold weather can really dry out your skin and cause flakiness, so pack an ultra-hydrating moisturiser. You might also want to treat your skin to a thirst quenching face mask or indulge yourself with a facial.
Avoid going from freezing cold temperatures into extreme warmth by opting for a warm shower rather than a scorching bath. Remember the sun can still damage your skin even when it’s cold, so wear sunscreen and a lip balm with SPF.
Holidays in the sun
Exfoliate before sunny trips to prevent blocked pores and stop your skin from peeling. Wear a high factor sun cream, and remember to reapply after swimming and every few hours to stay protected.
If you get sweaty, blot your skin with a wipe or tissue rather than with your hands. You might also want to wash more frequently in warmer weather to keep your skin clean. Pack some nourishing and cooling aftersun with Aloe Vera to soothe your skin after a day in the sun.
Active holidays
For active holidays, make sure you pack plenty of changes of clothes so that you don’t have to workout in sweaty gear. Always wash your face properly after exercising and pack a decent moisturiser.
Humid destinations
Humid destinations can get very sticky so you may want to bring a sunscreen that’s designed for sport. Where there’s humidity there’s often bugs, so remember to pack a strong insect repellent. Makeup can feel very heavy in the humidity so you may want to swap foundation for a light, tinted moisturiser, or if it’s really humid, avoid wearing makeup altogether.
