Isn’t it funny how we spend most of our teenage years trying to look older, but as soon as we hit our 25th birthday, we become preoccupied with reversing the process?!

At the time of writing, no one has discovered the font of eternal youth, so we have all had to turn to more conventional methods.

There are a million miracle creams on the market that promise the earth, but they can be expensive, packed full of chemicals and harsh on the skin.

It is therefore good to investigate other, more natural ways of keeping your skin looking younger.

This often involves looking at the health of your skin, as healthy skin will always look fresh and youthful.

Here, we have put together some top natural skin care tips to keep the signs of ageing at bay:

1. Drink plenty of water

Most of us know that moisturiser is the key to getting your skin looking great, but have you ever thought about the most natural moisturiser on Earth? That’s right, water!

Keeping your body hydrated is part of making your skin hydrated too.

Water evaporates from the skin, so you need to keep in constantly topped up by drinking at least one litre a day.1

2. Think about what you eat

There is an old adage that says ‘you are what you eat’ and that is certainly true when it comes to skincare.

Avoiding processed foods and refined sugars is good for both your skin and your waistline.

However, it is not just about what you need to skip as there are certain foods that may support skin health.

Foods such as cooked tomatoes, peppers and beetroot contain powerful antioxidants that may reduce oxidative damage to the skin, whilst red meat is loaded with protein, zinc and the amino acids which are needed to produce collagen.

3. Invest in aloe vera

Aloe vera is a terrific natural skincare ingredient, and it has often been used to soothe skin.

The skin absorbs aloe vera gel very easily, so it is fantastic for hydrating dry skin and perfect for use on oily skin too.2

It is also well-known for helping itchiness and dryness of red skin

Swapping your regular moisturiser for an aloe vera moisturiser is a great first move towards a more natural skincare routine.

4. Make your own skincare

There is no need to spend a fortune on lotions and potions when homemade skincare can do just as good a job.

These do not need to follow complicated recipes, as it can be as simple as switching your face wash for honey which helps to open up the pores and acts as a natural moisturiser for the face.

Turmeric is another natural hero ingredient, and it can be mixed together with rice flour or ground oats, and plain yoghurt to make a fragrant and healthy natural face mask.

Nature has served us well for many centuries, and it continues to do so.

Our skin is a product of nature, and so using natural products on it will help to calm and soothe it. And you will soon not only see a difference, but feel it too!
