As the weather gets warmer, it’s a good idea to spare a thought to your beauty regime. The makeup that gets you through the winter months may not be best suited to warm, balmy days, and your body moisturiser may be a little too heavy.

Mostly AsSkin care is your priority when the sun shines but you’re not entirely sure where to start. So first things first: invest in a good moisturiser with the right level of protection. A broad-spectrum sunscreen – one that protects against UVA and UVB rays with an SPF30 – is essential, and should be worn everyday. A facial scrub can get rid of dead skin cells that have built up over winter, freshening your complexion. Try one with tiny particles and soothing natural ingredients, like manuka honey, to shift grime and soften skin. Use twice a week to get the best results. If you’re craving an immediate glow, but also want skin care benefits, pick a self-tanner specially designed for the face that also contains beauty-boosting ingredients such as macadamia nut oil. You’ll get a subtle tan and a ridiculously dewy finish.
Mostly BsWhen it comes to summer, you want your body to look its best. Apart from following an exercise plan, a good scrub is the fastest way to prep for the beach. Go for one with birch extract, known for its purifying and detoxifying effects on sluggish systems.
Forgo your usual body butters, as your skin won’t need as much moisture in the humidity, and switch to lighter lotions that hydrate and cool – anything with mint will give you a wonderful tingling sensation. Choose one with added antioxidants to nourish the skin too, particularly after being out in the sun.
You can also update your fragrance to something similarly stimulating. This summer, perfumes are inspired by classic holiday scents – choose one that blends fruity notes with woody undertones and you’ll feel as though you’re sunning yourself right by the Med.
You love make-up and admit you’d be lost without your essentials, but it’s time to upgrade to lighter, brighter, formulas and colours. Your foundation should be first in line; a heavy base can clog your pores in the heat, so switch to a beauty balm (BB cream) for some subtle colour, an even skin tone and added moisture.
Bronzing powder is a must for faking a sun-kissed glow. For the most natural effect, go for something that’s shimmer-free (real tans don’t sparkle!) and a shade darker than your usual skin tone. Using a medium sized brush, dust it over the areas of your face usually hit by the sun – your forehead, cheeks and the bridge of your nose.
Finally, swap your usual gloss or lipstick for one with an SPF to protect the delicate skin on your lips. Not a lippy fan?
