5 of the best sugar free/reduced sugar biscuits

    Who doesn’t love a biscuit?

Chocolate, coconut, berries… the flavours are endless, and that elevenses temptation powerful.

But we are all familiar with that sugar high (and subsequent crash) that comes after eating one too many cookies. And we know it is not good for us on the inside either.

Thankfully, sugar free and reduced sugar biscuits have made giant leaps forward in the last few years.

No longer the dry, flavourless, limp oatcakes of the past – now you can enjoy a sweet snack while still keeping your health your top priority.

Here we look at five of the best sugar free biscuits available to buy today:

    Sugar free chocolate biscuits

We will put it simply: we love Diablo.

This little known sugar free brand has made it their mission to produce guiltless snacks without compromising on taste.

And it is their commitment to flavour that has impressed us, with a range including everything from sugar free cake to lemon sweets and strawberry sweets.

Amongst Diablo’s range of cookies, a family favourite is the Diablo Dark Sandwich Cookie.

This extra dark cocoa cookie with vanilla cream is great in a lunchbox, in a coat pocket on the way to the park, or as a midnight snack at a birthday sleepover.

Kids love these Oreo style cookies, which are completely sugar free.

The real question is, how best to eat them? Take a big bite and get all layers in one? Or twist the biscuits apart and lick the white cream out?!

We thought the classic Oreo cookie could never be bested. We were wrong!

    Coconut Cookies

Perhaps you are dreaming of a getaway to the tropics, or just fending off those cold-weather blues.

For many, coconut is the flavour of the day, and we love Diablo Sugar Free Coconut Cookies.

With a velvety softness and a coconut textured crunch, these sugarless biscuits are the perfect after your sixth, seventh or eighth hour staring at a computer screen. Anyone else for a cuppa?

    Peanut Cookies

Nut lovers, rejoice! Diablo Chocolate Striped Peanut Butter Cookies have landed.

And what a combination these no added sugar biscuits are. Something about salty peanuts topped with a hint of dark chocolate can really satisfy a mid-morning slump.

Peanuts are a source of muscle building proteins too. Which means we can eat one right after that super sweaty yoga session…. Right?

    Chocolate Chip Cookies

And of course, what list of sugarless biscuits would be complete without the inclusion of the classic Chocolate Chip Cookie?

Dunked in tea or munched with coffee, the chocolate chip cookie is a legend unto itself, in a class of its own.

And Diabo’s chocolate chip sugarless cookies are to die for. The secret of them is the ratio of chocolate chip to cookie base.

Too much chocolate and you have wavered into a chocolate cookie: too little chocolate and the whole thing can start to feel a little bland.

Using natural sweeteners, sugarless chocolate chip cookies create that classic flavour without a burst of unwanted hyperactivity.

    Cookies at home

Whether entertaining the kids or camping up a weekend picnic, many of us are discovering the delights of baking at home.

With a plethora of recipes online and previously niche ingredients now easily accessible, we are rolling up our sleeves and whipping out our rolling pins and baking trays.

Baking at home can really throw into relief just how much sugar actually goes into those supermarket bought sweet treats, so it is not surprising that we are increasingly turning to low sugar or sugar free recipes to satisfy our sweet cravings. As well as improve the health of our children1.

Thankfully there are many recipes available online for favourites, such as sugar free ginger biscuits and sugar free oat biscuits.

An honourable mention here goes to the Diablo Sugar Free Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts Bar. If your family loves baking but strives to be a sugar free household, these bars go beautifully into a sugar free cookie recipe. That is your Saturday afternoon activity sorted. And without a burst of hyperactive sugary energy, either!

If you are looking for sugarless biscuits, look no further. These sumptuous flavours will stock your cupboards, your car glove box, and your handbag, helping you to get through the day without caving into sugary temptation.

Pick up one of these five best sugar free biscuits instead…. Heaven!
