6 simple ways activated charcoal will boost your beauty regime

23 Nov 2022 • 1 min read

From products like whitening toothpaste to detoxing face masks, activated charcoal is the latest ingredient to take the beauty world by storm. Completely tasteless and odourless, the fine black powder is made from treated charcoal which gives it excellent absorbent properties. Here are 6 ways you can reap its benefits.
  • Brush away tooth stains with activated charcoal
You can remove tooth-decaying plaque with activated charcoal by gently brushing with a simple paste made from two emptied charcoal capsules and a little water.  Alternatively, try Georganics Remineralising Toothpaste Charcoal, which is boosted with tooth-friendly calcium. After two minutes of brushing, rinse well to remove any leftover powder.
  • Clarify your skin with a deep cleansing charcoal face mask
Mix one teaspoon of activated charcoal with a teaspoon of warm water and a drizzle of Manuka honey, before applying to your face. Leave to dry for up to 10 minutes, then wash away for clearer, softer skin and unclogged pores.
  • Naturally remove product buildup from your hair and scalp
Empty one capsule of activated charcoal into your favourite shampoo to gently get rid of dandruff, leftover hair products and oil. Simply wash your hair as normal and rinse thoroughly before conditioning.
  • Exfoliate with charcoal for a radiant glow
Gently sloughing away dead skin cells helps to keep breakouts at bay and leaves your skin super soft. To make a homemade body scrub, simply combine three emptied charcoal capsules with coarse sea salt and coconut oil in a bowl. When it’s all mixed in together, have a shower and massage the scrub onto your body, before rinsing off with warm water. If you’ve been stung by a bee or bitten by an insect, charcoal provides relief from the irritation. Carefully pat on a paste made from activated charcoal mixed with water to bring down any swelling and soothe any pain or itching. Cover with a plaster or bandage and reapply the paste as needed.
  • Stay fresh with homemade charcoal deodorant
Concerned about the chemicals in antiperspirants? Activated charcoal makes an effective non-toxic/ natural deodorant. Stir together four tablespoons of melted coconut oil with 100g of Bicarbonate of Soda, 100g of corn flour and two teaspoons of activated charcoal powder. Store the cream deodorant in a sealed container. Once the mixture has cooled and hardened, rub a pea-sized amount onto your underarms in the shower.
