How to tone after weight loss

Wondering how you can tackle loose skin after weight loss? Here’s how to treat and tighten your skin.

If you’ve recently lost a lot of weight, you might be faced with loose, sagging skin. First, congratulations on losing weight and improving your health. But what can you do about that loose skin so you can feel more confident in your new shapely body?

    Can skin tighten up?

Skin is a living organ which will respond to your skin-tightening efforts. However, bear in mind that toning exercises might not tighten all your loose skin. The advice here is best used for smaller areas of slightly sagging skin.

    Toning and tightening exercises

The best way to improve the look of loose skin is to fill it out by building more lean muscle. Strength training will tackle the issue in two ways. First, it will build muscle which will fill out your new physique with firm, shapely tone. And second, strength training will improve your skin tone and encourage healthy cell renewal.

Create a tighter, more toned look by adding strength training or resistance work into your weekly fitness routine. Concentrate on big compound exercises which will stimulate the largest muscles of the body. This will fill out your loose skin to give you a more toned physique.

    Tighten your trouble spots

    • For your legs and bottom: squats, lunges, leg press.
    • For your back and shoulders: bent over rows, assisted chin ups, inverted rows.
    • For your chest and shoulders: bench press, incline dumbbell press, press ups.
    • For your waist and tummy: leg raises, sit ups, plank holds.
    • For your upper arms: triceps dips, triceps kickbacks.

    Treating your skin

You could also try dry body brushing to tackle loose skin. Follow it up with a tightening body lotion. Drink plenty of water, eat enough protein, and add plenty of vegetables to your diet. All round health will help your skin regain its elasticity.

Losing weight can make you feel like a different person; you’ll feel happier, fitter and have much more energy. And once you’ve tackled your excess skin, you’ll feel even better. It may take time and effort, but it’ll be worth it.
