This delicious smokey honey hummus recipe, created by Egmont Manuka Honey, will be sure to impress and is the perfect side dish to take to any BBQ you may have planned this summer!
Ingredients
- 1 can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed, skins removed
- 45g tahini
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 lemon, for juicing
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 3 tbsp Egmont Mānuka honey
- 3 tbsp olive oil, plus more as needed
Helena Thomas-Harman, one of our nutritionists here at H&B, explains why some of these ingredients are great to include in your diet:
"Chickpeas are a great source of fibre! As a nation we generally do not get enough fibre in our diets, we should be aiming for 30g a day, and it is hugely important. Fibre can support digestion by providing ‘roughage’ to keep our bowel movements regular as well as supporting a healthy gut.
Chickpeas are also a great plant-based source of protein which is essential for maintaining muscle strength and repair."
"Tahini is actually a paste made from sesame seeds which are a source of a phytoestrogen called lignans, which are plant compounds that has a similar chemical structure to oestrogen"
"Even in small quantities garlic can provide some powerful antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antiviral properties that can be beneficial for our overall health and wellbeing.
Garlic is also a prebiotic, which is a fermentable carbohydrate that feeds the good bacteria in our gut, this then produces by products that are beneficial for our immune system and gut health. "

Method
- In a blender, add chickpeas (with all skins removed), tahini, garlic, lemon juice, salt, smoked paprika and honey.
- Blend until smooth.
- Add in some ice cubes and keep blending whilst gradually adding olive oil.
- Season with more salt or paprika and a drizzle of honey!
- Spread on toast or dip in your fav veggies for a healthy snack.
