Supplements for children & teenagers
Between fussy eaters and busy lives, kids can sometimes benefit from a few extra nutrients.
And older children may need extra help as they navigate new stages and routines through their teenage years
Do children need extra vitamins?
Ideally, your child should get most of their vitamins through their diet instead of through supplements. But some types are recommended:
0-5 years
- The government recommends all children aged 6 months to 5 years are given daily vitamin supplements containing vitamins A, C, and D, unless they drink more than 500ml of infant formula per day. This is because formula milk is already fortified with these vitamins.1
- Babies who are being breastfed should be given vitamin D supplements from birth. These are available in drops for babies and young children.1
5 years +
- The government recommends everyone over the age of 4 should take a vitamin D supplement during the winter months (roughly between October and March). However, you can also choose not to.2
Outside of these, most children get all the vitamins they need from food. However, a kids’ multivitamin can give you peace of mind.

Tips for staying safe
- Keep vitamins and supplements out of your child’s reach.
