Life Kitchen was born out of the desire to help people find flavour and pleasure in food again.
Ryan Riley is an author, cook and food stylist, while Kimberley Duke is a recipe developer, trained chef and is too a food stylist. Together, Ryan and Kimberley co-founded Life Kitchen.

Both Ryan and Kimberley were inspired to start Life Kitchen (a not-for-profit cookery school)
after losing parents to cancer.
During Ryan’s mum’s two-year battle with cancer, he saw how chemotherapy was affecting her ability to taste and experience food. Wanting to honour his mother’s memory, Ryan used his cooking skills to help other cancer patients find flavour and pleasure in food again.
Ryan shared “Our aim is to help as many people as possible enjoy food again. Sadly, we’ve seen first-hand how chemotherapy affected our parents’ ability to experience food and we’ve been on a mission ever since to change this.”
Cancer treatment
– and long Covid – has led several people to lose or experience changes to their taste or smell. Ryan and Kimberley recognised how tough this side effect is to people, and how it can make mealtimes difficult and isolating.
Both Ryan and Kimberley are thrilled to work with H&B to bring an innovative product range to the high-street. They’re excited to see the positive impact this range can have on those experiencing changes to taste and smell.
The collection has been designed to enhance the five basic tastes - sweet, sour, salt, bitter and umami.
Together, our internal culinary and science experts at H&B have worked with Life Kitchen under the guidance of Professor Barry Smith - founder of the Centre for Study of the Senses - to create six unique products.
Each product has taste boosting qualities. Meaning even if your taste and smell hasn’t been affected, you can use the products to enhance the flavours of any dishes you are creating too.
